CS501– (210 Hours: 7 Credits)Clinical Phase I: Clinic ObservationPre-Requisites: CPR & First Aid, AC401This is the first level of the three clinical phases of training. It involves the observation of patient treatments and includes 20 hours of clinic rounds where the student works directly with practitioners. This phase also includes an introduction to clinical duties and responsibilities such as universal precautions, sterile procedures, standards for setting up a treatment room, and the equipment and supplies used in the practice of acupuncture. Students are exposed to patient care and case management, examination skills, elementary point location, palpation techniques, needling, moxibustion, and electro-stimulation under the supervision of licensed acupuncture physicians. CS502– (270 Hours: 9 Credits)Clinical Phase II: Supervised PracticePre-Requisites: CS501, CCAOM CNT CertificationDuring this phase, students observe treatments, diagnose, needle, and moxa patients under the direction of a supervising licensed acupuncture physician. Co-Requisite: Students must provide documentation for the completion of an approved off-site course in First Aid (minimum 4 hrs) and CPR (minimum 4 hrs) training before they are allowed to needle patients. CS503– (210 Hours: 7 Credits)Clinical Phase III: InternshipPre-Requisites: CS502This phase is the culmination of clinical studies where students assume the role of an independent practitioner. They interview patients and form diagnoses and treatment plans that are approved or modified by the supervising licensed acupuncture physician. CS504– (60 Hours: 2 Credits)Clinic Externship Pre-Requisites: CS502This off-campus program provides a unique clinical experience for students at local Western medical centers. It is conducted at the intern level, or phase III of clinical practice, under the supervision of licensed acupuncture physicians associated with the college. EWCMN is proud to be partnered with HealthSouth, one of the largest healthcare organizations in America, and Sarasota Memorial Comprehensive pain center. Here students have the opportunity to work in a collaborative biomedicine clinic. The 60 hours earned in the Clinic externship will be applied to the 270 hours required in Clinical Phase III: Internship. CH511– (60 Hours: 2 Credits)Herbal Clinic I: DispensaryPre-Requisites: HS511, HS512This course teaches students to interview, diagnose, and determine the appropriate herbal formula for a patient. They assemble raw herb formulas from the herbal dispensary and follow up on patient response. Students are closely supervised by the instructor who guides and corrects each student. CH512– (60 Hours: 2 Credits)Herbal Clinic II: ApplicationsPre-Requisites: HS511, HS512This is the follow-up course to CH511. Students are encouraged to act independently and justify their rationale for treatment. Each student is expected to practice with more independence at this level. CS521– (30 Hours: 1 Credit)Japanese Acupuncture TechniquesCo-Requisite: AC521This course provides practical hands-on training in the techniques and theory of the various schools of Japanese meridian therapy. Students apply diagnostic methods, treatment tools, and therapeutic methods specific to this therapy. They will also compare and contrast this style of acupuncture with Chinese Medicine.
