It also discuses botany and modern pharmacognosy. HS501– (60 Hours: 4 Credits)Individual Herbs IPre-Requisite: HS401This course provides instruction in individual herbs covering the nature, taste, meridian entered, botanical and Chinese name; meaning of the Chinese character; functions and indications, important biochemical components, and other clinical information for warm and cold herbs that release the exterior, herbs that drain fire, and herbs that clear heat. HS502– (60 Hours: 4 Credits)Individual Herbs IIPre-Requisite: HS401This course provides instruction in individual herbs covering the nature, taste, meridian entered, botanical and Chinese name, meaning of the Chinese character, functions and indications, important biochemical components, and other information for purgative herbs, herbs that benefit urination and drain damp, and herbs that expel wind and damp. HS504– (60 Hours: 4 Credits)Individual Herbs IVPre-Requisite: HS401This course provides instruction in individual herbs covering the nature, taste, meridian entered, botanical and Chinese name, meaning of the Chinese character, functions and indications, important biochemical components, and other pertinent information for herbs that invigorate blood, warm the interior and expel cold, and herbs that tonify qi, blood, yang, HS511– (60 Hours: 4 Credits)Herbal Formulas IPre-Requisites: HS501, HS502, HS504, HS504This course provides an introduction to herbal formulas including strategies for composition types, functions, indications, contraindications, modifications, methods of preparation, and treatment of selected diseases. The course covers formulas that release the exterior, harmonize, clear heat, warm interior cold, and tonify qi, blood, yin, and yang. HS512– (60 Hours: 4 Credits)Herbal Formulas IIPre-Requisites: HS501, HS502, HS504, HS504This course is a continuation of Herbal Formulas I. It covers herbal formulas that stabilize and bind, calm the spirit, open the orifices, regulate qi, invigorate blood, stop bleeding, reduce food stagnation, expel damp and wind, treat phlegm and dryness, and expel parasites. HS513– (30 Hours: 2 Credits)Herbal Formulas IIIPre-Requisite: HS511, HS512In this course the student is introduced to the application of selected patent herb formulas for the treatment of common diseases. HS521– (30 Hours: 2 Credits)Nutrition & Dietary TherapyPre-Requisites:OM404-OM407, AC501This course provides a foundation in OM nutritional principles. It covers categorization of common foods with regard to temperature, taste and function, dietary advice for various conditions, preparation of common food and herbal formulas, and treatments for selected diseases.
